FLSmidth Filter Cloth

PRIMARY USES

1. Essential Consumable for Automatic Filter Press (AFP) Operations
Primary Use: Filter cloths are the critical filtration media used in FLSmidth Automatic Filter Presses (AFP) and EIMCO® AFP IV series. They line the filter plates to form the chambers where solids are captured and liquid filtrate passes through . Essential for mining, mineral processing, and industrial dewatering applications including concentrates and tailings.
How it helps: For process engineers and plant operators, FLSmidth filter cloths are engineered to work seamlessly with the Maxa™ Filter Plate, addressing common points of cloth failure. The streamlined plate anatomy prolongs cloth life by introducing air for cake blow at a lower velocity to reduce abrasion . A modified interface between the plate and cloth provides greater support, minimizing high stress areas, while an improved pip design provides more consistent cloth support . The quick-change filter cloth design enables fast replacement during scheduled maintenance .

SECONDARY USES

1. Wear Monitoring: FLSmidth has developed innovative filter media with integrated conductive elements that provide early indication of cloth wear, generating a response signal when abrasive particles compromise the filament .
2. Compatibility: FLSmidth filter cloths are compatible with EIMCO® AFP and AFP IV Automated Filter Presses .
3. Material Options: FLSmidth offers filter media in polypropylene, polyester, nylon, PTFE, and other polymers for different chemical and temperature requirements.
4. Quick-Change Design: The filter plate assembly incorporates an adapter ring and grommet system for rapid filter cloth replacement without removing the entire plate .

SAFETY HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety goggles, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots when handling or installing filter cloths.
Lockout/Tagout: Always isolate and lock out the filter press from its hydraulic and electrical power sources before beginning any maintenance or installation work.
Chemical Safety: Filter cloth material must be matched to the specific chemical composition of the process slurry to prevent chemical degradation or failure. Available materials include polypropylene, polyester, nylon, PTFE, and blends .
Training requirement: Maintenance personnel must be properly trained on the safe and correct procedures for handling and installing filter cloths on the specific FLSmidth filter press model.

2. FIRST AID MEASURES

Eye Exposure: If slurry or chemicals splash into the eyes, flush immediately with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Seek medical attention.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed skin with soap and water. If irritation develops or chemical burns occur, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: If chemical fumes or dust are inhaled, move to fresh air. If symptoms persist (coughing, difficulty breathing), seek medical attention.

3. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Flammability: Filter cloths (synthetic polymers) are combustible. Use extinguishing media appropriate for plastic fires.
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, foam, dry chemical powder, or carbon dioxide (CO₂).
Fire Response: In the event of a fire, evacuate the area and call emergency services. Use appropriate extinguishers.
