Larox filter rubber diaphragms are essential components for Larox® PF pressure filters, enabling efficient cake dewatering through diaphragm pressing. Manufactured from tailored rubber compounds and available in various materials for different pH ranges and chemicals. The diaphragm transforms pressing force into mechanical compression, seals the filter chamber, and protects the filter plate from corrosion. The Larox PF filter operates at up to 16 bar pressure with filtration areas from 1.6 to 168 m² . Re-engineered NR Diaphragms offer increased reliability and extended lifetime.

Larox Filter Rubber Diaphragm

PRIMARY USES

1. Essential Component for Pressure Filtration in Larox® PF Filters
Primary Use: A flexible, impermeable rubber component used in Larox® PF (Pressure Filter) membrane plates to perform a secondary “squeeze” step for enhanced dewatering. Essential for mining, metallurgical, chemical processing, and industrial applications where achieving maximum cake dryness and efficient solids washing is critical.
How it helps: For process engineers and plant operators, the rubber diaphragm is responsible for moving water in slurry through the filter media by either compressed air or pressurized water. The diaphragm transfers the pressure to the slurry for effective dewatering, where most water not adsorbed on the solid particle surface is drained from the plate chamber. The diaphragm is also a true multitasker within the plate pack – it transforms the force of pressing air or pressing water into mechanical pressing, keeps the pressing media and filter cake separated, protects the filter plate as a lining against corrosion, forms the sealing between filter baseplate and frame, and in PF filters with plastic plate pack it also acts as a sealing frame .

SECONDARY USES

1. Filter Cake Dewatering: Compressing the cake with diaphragm pressing is the prerequisite to forming the cake in pressure filtration, and is a very energy-efficient form of dewatering .
2. Corrosion Protection: The diaphragm protects the filter plate as a lining against corrosion in aggressive process environments.
3. Special Applications: For special applications, a range of materials other than Natural Rubber can be used to ensure robustness against other pH ranges and chemicals.
4. Replacement and Maintenance: Diaphragms are consumable parts that require frequent replacement due to the continuous strain and stress from stretching and contraction after every filtration cycle . Metso offers re-engineered NR Diaphragms with new material composition and manufacturing methods for increased reliability and extended lifetime.

SAFETY HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety goggles, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots when handling or installing diaphragms.
Lockout/Tagout: Always isolate and lock out the filter press from its hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical power sources before beginning any maintenance or installation work.
Chemical Safety: Diaphragm material must be matched to the specific chemical composition of the process slurry. Metso offers a range of materials other than NR to ensure robustness against various pH ranges and chemicals.
Storage and Handling: Like all rubber components, follow Metso Guidelines in storage, handling, and operation of original Larox PF diaphragms.
Training requirement: Maintenance personnel must be properly trained on the safe and correct procedures for handling and installing diaphragms on the specific Larox filter press model.

2. FIRST AID MEASURES

Eye Exposure: If slurry or chemicals splash into the eyes, flush immediately with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Seek medical attention.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed skin with soap and water. If irritation develops or chemical burns occur, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: If chemical fumes or dust are inhaled, move to fresh air. If symptoms persist (coughing, difficulty breathing), seek medical attention.

3. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Flammability: Rubber and polymer diaphragms are combustible. Use extinguishing media appropriate for rubber/plastic fires.
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, foam, dry chemical powder, or carbon dioxide (CO₂) for fires involving diaphragms.
Fire Response: In the event of a fire, evacuate the area and call emergency services. Use appropriate extinguishers.
