Matec Filter Plate

PRIMARY USES

1. Industrial Solid-Liquid Separation and Sludge Dewatering
Primary Use: Filter plates are the core components of Matec filter presses, used for solid-liquid separation in wastewater treatment, mining, aggregates, and industrial applications. Essential for dewatering sludges, recovering clean water, and producing dry filter cakes for disposal or further processing .
How it helps: For process engineers and plant operators, Matec filter plates deliver efficient cake formation and filtration performance. The plates are used in filter presses to separate solids and liquids efficiently, enabling quality control of the final product and reduction of moisture in solids . Matec’s High Pressure Technology (HPT) allows operation at standard pressures of 5-7 bar, as well as high pressures of 16-21 bar, achieving residual moisture in the sludge cake of less than 10% . The filters are designed to achieve optimum results in industrial sludge dewatering .
2. Versatile Design and Customisation
Primary Use: Plates are available in various configurations, sizes, and materials to suit specific applications and process conditions.
How it helps: The plate filter press is available in models ranging from small Aquae filter presses to the largest Megalith filter presses. The plates themselves can be constructed from polypropylene (PPAD) or other plastic materials to ensure compatibility with specific chemicals and filtration temperatures. In highly corrosive environments, such as marine or chemical applications, special coatings and durable material constructions like AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel are applied to the filter press frames and components .

SECONDARY USES

1. Mining Tailings Treatment: Dewaters tailings and mineral concentrates in mining operations, recovering up to 90% clean water .
2. Aggregates and Quarrying: Treats sludge from sand, gravel, and stone washing operations .
3. Chemical and Industrial Applications: Handles aggressive chemical solutions with closed pipe outlets to avoid operator contact and ATEX-compliant construction for explosion-hazardous environments .
4. Concrete and C&D Waste Recycling: Part of Concrete Water Recycling (CWR) plants for treating wash water from concrete production .

SAFETY HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety goggles, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots when handling or installing filter plates. For chemical applications, additional chemical-resistant PPE may be required.
Lockout/Tagout: Always isolate and lock out the filter press from its hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical power sources before beginning any maintenance or installation work.
Lifting: Use appropriate lifting equipment for heavy plate components. Filter plates can be large and heavy; individual plates may require specialised handling equipment.
Access: Use integrated maintenance platforms to access the top of the machine for safe cloth maintenance operations. The overhead beam design facilitates safe access .
Chemical Safety: For applications handling aggressive chemicals, special coatings and closed pipe outlets help avoid operator contact. ATEX-compliant construction is available for explosion-hazardous environments .
Training requirement: Maintenance personnel must be properly trained on the safe and correct procedures for handling and installing filter plates on the specific Matec filter press model.

2. FIRST AID MEASURES

Eye Exposure: If slurry or chemicals splash into the eyes, flush immediately with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Seek medical attention.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed skin with soap and water. If irritation develops or chemical burns occur, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: If chemical fumes or dust are inhaled, move to fresh air. If symptoms persist (coughing, difficulty breathing), seek medical attention.

3. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Flammability: Filter plates (typically polypropylene) are combustible. Use extinguishing media appropriate for plastic fires. Electrical equipment may be involved in fires.
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, foam, dry chemical powder, or carbon dioxide (CO₂) for fires involving filter plates or electrical equipment.
Fire Response: In the event of a fire, evacuate the area and call emergency services. Use appropriate extinguishers. If the fire involves aggressive chemicals, follow specific chemical fire response protocols.
